NW 23rd Street

Halff is providing the design and all other engineering services related to resurfacing, sidewalks, lighting, access and safety improvements and pedestrian safety improvements at NW 23rd Street from North Western Avenue to I-235. Additional improvements include waterline replacement at NW 23rd Street from Western Avenue to Lee Avenue, and sanitary sewer rehabilitation at NW 23rd Street from Western Avenue to Francis Avenue.

Halff coordinated with EMBARK, the City’s public transit system, about improvements planned for this section of Route 23 and 23N, EMBARK’s most used route. Halff proposed new locations for the bus stops, better signage, lighting and new shelters, as well as the possibility of becoming a BRT route in the future.

This project provided enhancements to make the entire corridor more walkable and safer for the traveling public—young and old. The team also analyzed the traffic and pedestrian movements and performed stakeholder involvement to determine a typical section (or sections) that accommodated all users for this historic and very important Oklahoma City corridor north of downtown OKC and west of the State Capitol.

The development of construction plans for the reconstruction of 1,700 lf of waterline and 800 lf of sanitary pipe bursting is also included in this scope of work.
